SBCC Consultancy in Africa
Praxis SBCC is an Africa-rooted SBCC consultancy based in Nairobi, supporting social and behavior change programs in Kenya, East Africa and across the continent with research, strategy, training and evaluation.
Why choose an SBCC consultancy in Africa
Social and behavior change programs, and any SBCC consultancy in Africa that supports them, are increasingly designed and led by African teams. Donors, UN agencies and international NGOs are looking for partners who combine strong technical skills with deep regional knowledge and local relationships.
As an SBCC consultancy in Africa, Praxis SBCC brings both. Our base in Nairobi puts us at the center of East Africa's development sector, with easy travel to the region and beyond.
As an SBCC consultancy in Africa, we believe the best programs are designed with, not for, the communities they serve. Being Africa-rooted helps us ask better questions, notice cultural details and build trust faster.

Adapting SBCC across African contexts
Africa is not one context. Language, religion, family structures, media habits, health systems and political settings vary widely between and within countries. A successful SBCC consultancy in Africa must resist copying approaches from one place to another without testing them.
We start each country engagement by reviewing national strategies, policies and existing research, and by speaking with ministry officials, implementing partners and community representatives. We then adapt behaviors, messages and channels based on local evidence, and pretest materials in the languages people use.
This careful adaptation takes some extra time at the start, but it reduces the risk of costly mistakes, such as messages that offend, channels that do not reach the audience, or behaviors that are unrealistic in local conditions.
Local partners and associates
Our model as an SBCC consultancy in Africa relies on strong local partnerships. In each country we work with experienced researchers, facilitators, translators and creative professionals who know the context. We train them on our tools, agree quality standards and work alongside them in the field.
This approach builds local capacity, keeps costs reasonable and ensures that community members are engaged by people they can relate to. It also supports the localization commitments of many donors and international NGOs, who increasingly want to see African organizations leading program design and delivery.

Working with donors and international agencies
We are familiar with the requirements of UN agencies, bilateral donors, foundations and international NGOs, including technical proposal formats, inception reports, ethics and safeguarding requirements, and results frameworks. As an SBCC consultancy in Africa we can work directly for these organizations, as a partner in a consortium, or as a sub-consultant. See how to work with us.
Practical advantages of an Africa-based team
For an SBCC consultancy in Africa, location matters. Being based in Nairobi means our team shares a working day with most of East and Southern Africa and much of West Africa, and is a short flight from many regional capitals. For donors and agencies with regional hubs in Nairobi, Addis Ababa, Kampala or Dar es Salaam, this makes meetings, field visits and workshops easier to arrange. For multi-country programs it also reduces travel time and cost compared with teams based outside the continent.
Languages and cultural adaptation
Africa has more than two thousand languages, and people often prefer to discuss sensitive topics in their first language. Our approach as an SBCC consultancy in Africa includes working with native-speaking researchers and translators, using back-translation for key tools, and pretesting materials with the communities who will use them. We also adapt images, names, examples and stories so that materials feel local and respectful.
